Large-Scale Stone Terrace and Amphitheater Build in Liberty NY

This is one of those projects that stops people in their tracks. A sloped, unusable hillside in Liberty, NY gets completely reworked into a multi-tiered stone terrace setup - the kind of hardscape that becomes a permanent fixture of the property for generations.

What we were working with here was a significant grade change. That kind of terrain is tricky. You can't just push dirt around and call it done. It takes real planning - proper grading, drainage considerations, and a clear vision for how each tier will sit and hold long-term. We used massive natural stone blocks to build out each level, stacking and setting them so they read as a cohesive, structured amphitheater-style space.

The central staircase runs straight up through the heart of the terrace, flanked on both sides by ornamental grasses and young plantings already going in the ground. That's intentional. Getting plant material in early means root systems start establishing right away, which helps stabilize everything and gives the space that lived-in feel much faster than waiting until the last stone is set.

Work like this doesn't happen fast, and it shouldn't. You're moving serious weight, working with heavy equipment, and building something that has to hold up under freeze-thaw cycles, rain, and everything else the Catskills region throws at a site. Every block is placed with purpose.

Projects like this one in Liberty are what we do best - large-scale site work where the terrain itself is the challenge. When it's finished, the space tells the story on its own.
