Stone work season is in full swing for us, and we couldn't be more fired up about it. Right now we've got crews out setting natural steps, laying flagstone patios, and building dry-stack retaining walls - the kind of work that takes a yard from functional to something you actually want to spend time in.

Here's what we love about natural stone - no two jobs look the same. Every piece is different, which means every layout takes real thought. You're not just slapping down pavers in a grid. You're fitting irregular shapes together, making cuts where needed, and thinking about how the eye moves through the space. That detail work is what separates a stone patio that looks right from one that just looks okay.

The front entry work is a good example. We're pulling out old material, grading the base properly, and setting natural steps with a flagstone landing. It's the kind of thing that completely changes how a home presents from the street. A well-built stone entry doesn't just look better - it holds up for decades without shifting or cracking the way cheaper materials tend to do.

Out back, dry-stack stone retaining walls are going in alongside a full flagstone patio. We also love a finished flagstone surface with river pebble joints - it has a ton of character and it fits really naturally into a wooded setting. As a bonus, our own office beds are putting on a show right now with coneflowers, ornamental grasses, and black-eyed Susans in full bloom - a good reminder of what thoughtful landscape design looks like when it matures.

Whether it's a front walkway, a backyard patio, or a retaining wall that needs to actually hold - we plan these projects carefully and build them to last. If you've been sitting on an idea for your yard, now is a great time to get it on the schedule.
